INTRODUCTION

This report covers update from 11th May 2020 to 18th of May 2020 which entails mass testing of staff on Covid-19 and the record of six staff who tested positive for Covid-19.

THE SCREENING TEAM

Monitoring of the screening process and distribution of hand towels, hand sanitizers and soaps for hand hygiene were carried out on daily basis for the week under review. Strict surveillance of all clients passing through our gates is being carried out. Staff protections with PPE’S have been enhanced and strictly adhere to.

THE COMMUNICATION TEAM

 Health Education at the facility –Education at the facility has been on-going at OPD, Male ward, Female ward, Public Health Unit and other units.

INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL TEAM

  • Disinfection at the facility: Regular cleaning of the facility using disinfectant is  done on daily basis. Fumigation exercise at the facility took place on the 16th and 17th of May, 2020 by MHD and covid-19 rapid response team and management members.
  • Ensuring social distancing: The policy of one visitor to a patient instituted earlier on is still being enforced. Decongestion committee have been responsible for the decongestion exercise at OPD. Also the policy of no nose mask no entry into the facility strictly enforce

RECORD OF CONFIRMED CASES OF COVID-19

MWCH recorded it first confirmed cases of covid-19 on 14th of May 2020 as result of the mass testing exercise that was initiated by the MHD. 22 samples were collected on the 8th May of 2020 from MWCH staff. The result of the test indicated that 6 staff were confirmed positive.

  • Caring for the sick

The patients of Covid-19 have been taking care of by the Covid-19 Rapid response team and management. 4 staff have been isolated at the facility (MWCH) and the other 2 (staff) have been isolated at home and cared by the Covid-19 teams. The patients have not been showing symptoms of Covid-19 as at 18th of May 2020.

LOGISTICS

Donations from St. Gregory, Budumburam and St. Francis Xavier hospital, Assin Fosu, St Lukes, Apam comprising hand sanitizers, liquid soap, face masks, veronica bucket, goggles were received.

13 staff that came into contact with a covid-19 case had their samples taken and sent to Noguchi. The case was a pregnant woman who came for ANC but was confirmed positive of Covid-19 by the MHD which took place outside the facility.

Samples were taken from 24 staff at MWCH by the MHD

 

Result for the mass testing carried out on the 8th of May 2020 were release to the facility and 6 staff out of 22 tested positive of Covid-19

4 staff of the 6 have been isolated at the facility (MWCH).

The other 2 (staff) have been isolated at home going through care and continual monitoring by the Covid-19 rapid response team and management

110 samples were collected from MWCH. 158 samples have been collected so far. The  final day for the mass testing at the facility will be on Tuesday, 19th of May, 2020

Caring for the Covid-19 patient

Covid-19 Rapid Response Team and management teams

Caring for the staff that have been infected with Covid-19 has been going on with the team following public health measures and protocols. The facility has been caring for them with hospital resources in totality including those staff isolating at home.
