Breast Cancer Awareness Month – 2023

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual international health campaign observed in October. The primary objective of this month-long campaign is to raise awareness about breast cancer, promote early detection, support those affected by the disease. It serves as a reminder of the importance of regular breast examinations and mammograms to detect breast cancer at an early, more treatable stage. 

Mercy Women Catholic Hospital organized breast cancer awareness campaign throughout the month of October to serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of early detection, prevention, and support for those affected by breast cancer. This annual observance is an opportunity to unite, educate, and inspire individuals to take proactive steps towards breast health.

Activities that were carried out included health education on breast cancer on radio stations such as Obrumankuma FM, Kingdom FM, Coastal FM, and Kobees FM.

The Breast Cancer Awareness campaign also provided free screening at various communities such as Assin Sobinso, Timber Market, New Nkusukum, School Kessim, Pentecost School, Mount Olivet Methodist Church, Mankessim Market, St. Claire Catholic Church, Ebenezer Methodist Church, Akwakrom Methodist Church, Mankessim Twafo and Assin Dominase and the premises of Mercy Women Catholic Hospital. 

The campaign also used fun games to sensitize people on breast cancer. Volleyball and Football were played between Mercy Women Catholic Hospital and St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Mankessim. More than 800 women were screened for breast cancer during the campaign. Breast Cancer Health Month is a time to come together, show support, and take proactive steps toward breast health.
